I am honored to be your guest host for this week’s edition of the Comedy Newsletter.
It takes seven muscles to smile and twenty-seven to frown,
and laughter is an aerobic exercise;
by extension, then, comedy is therapeutic
- both for the writer and the reader/listener

"Laughter is good medicine!." It's being tested (and perhaps proven) daily in worker productivity, social altruism, and family harmony (or lack of overt hostility).
Many of us gather with family, friends, co-workers this time of year. Holiday gatherings are anticipated or dreaded or both. Some see it as a duty, stressful, others (mainly kids) as fun.
So put on the kid persona and have some fun. It doesn't have to be a snowball fight, or touch football if you've seen more than a couple decades of winter holidays, but if your robo-hip is in shape, why not . Just be silly, tell a story, share embarrassing moments from kid days - but don't be mean - remember we 're looking for good medicine, not the nasty tasting stuff.
Have fun with physical comedy - act it out, tell the story in gestures as well as words, or words that gesture (nice)
How about a game where you use your writerly skills to create visual comedy - acting out the words ~ charades? If you're not sure what it is or how to play, ask a parent, or grandparent or, okay, google it. You have to be creative and you're going to laugh, whether you play or watch. Come on, you're writers you're going to want to play
One final thought, when gathering together, use the key jar but, instead of (or along with) keys, drop in the smartphones. For 3-4 hours out of a year's 8,760, look each other in the face, tell a story, an anecdote, fiction or factoid, play! You can do it - not textspeak LOL but laugh out loud for real
Then, share the funny stories you create there in prose the next time you gather, in person face to face.
