Road Trip

I have a short road trip coming up this weekend! A four-hour drive to upstate NY to go camping with family. It got me thinking about fun activities you can play in the car, which led me to searching WDC for ideas!

There are a few ways you can look for fun activities on WDC, and one thing I really love about activities here is that you can choose from a variety of types and styles! You can pick activities that will only take a few minutes or maybe seconds or some that will involve a longer commitment!

Start by clicking on "Community" on the left side of the screen and choose "Activities" from the list to see a list of member-submitted activity items! Or you can choose "Browse by Type" on the left and choose the type of activity that suits you! Here are a few that intrigued me when I chose those options:

You could easily turn an In & Out, Madlib or Poll into a fun car game!

Summer is the season a lot of us go on vacations, and it's important to remember your online duties when you are away from the internet. Of course, if you have an internet connection, you can continue your responsibilities from vacation, but sometimes it's also a good idea to take a break from online life. If that's your situation, there are a few things to remember:

*Idea* Hire a replacement! You can ask for a guest host or judge to run your contest while you're away, though make sure they completely understand what's expected of them, particularly if there will be no line of contact while you're gone!

*Idea* Take a break! Take time off from your contest or activity. Just don't forget to announce it to participants! Adding a message or header to your contest or activity should suffice to let people know you will be unavailable. Also, adding a note to your handle is a great idea!

*Idea* Have fun! Above all, try to enjoy your break. For most of us, WDC is a home away from home, a place to take a break from our daily grind, but sometimes a break from a website can be a good thing, too!

*Idea* Brainstorm! Use the time away to think of new ways to revamp or revive your portfolio, your contests & activities or your writing in general! Sometimes a change of scenery can spark great ideas!

Above all, have fun! Get the most out of every day, whether it's working hard toward your goals or taking a break to breathe and relax! *Smile*

As always, keep on writing!

Ask & Answer

My last newsletter, ("Contests & Activities Newsletter (June 6, 2018)Open in new Window.), discussed taking advice. Here is some feedback from last week's Newsletter readers:

Whenever I get a critical review, my gut response is to explain why I wrote the piece the way I did. One very good critical review I received gave me suggestions on how to improve my the piece. If a writer wishes to get better, he/she must by open to taking advice. ~ Kimbug Author Icon

I totally agree! It can be tough, but it's good to at least listen! *Bigsmile*

What games do you play during road trips? And how do you use vacations to recharge? Are you creative during vacations or do you spend the time relaxing and taking a break?
