Do the work

In my last newsletter, I wrote that I was waiting for an upcoming medical test, and my newsletter was about procrastination. Well, I got a diagnosis and now starts the work to fix it. I found out I have a food allergy, but the type where it's tough to tell what it is that's causing the allergic reaction. I'm currently on an elimination diet, where I eliminate one food item for two weeks before moving onto the next one. It feels tedious and long, but it will be worth it in the end!

It feels a lot like writing, honestly. *Laugh* I always find the first draft to be pretty fun. Ideas are pouring out, and I get to meet and develop new characters and worlds. It's all pretty exciting! But the work doesn't end there, does it?

Editing has always been tough for me. Once something is out, I feel like it's finished, but it really isn't! It needs fine-tuning and unless you're a brilliant writer who never needs to edit (exceptionally rare, possibly impossible, right?), you're going to have to stop and do the work.

In our modern day and age (why does that phrase make me feel old? *Laugh*), we tend to expect things immediately. I know once I enter a contest, I want to know right away how I did! I like games with immediate responses. I want to find out if I won! But most things take time. Try to remember that and have some patience while you're waiting for winners to be announced! *Pthb*

As always, keep on writing!

Ask & Answer

My last newsletter, ("Contests & Activities Newsletter (October 24, 2018)Open in new Window.), tips for procrastination. Here is some feedback from last week's Newsletter readers:

I can relate to the medical procedure wait fiasco. I learned a long time ago to look forward to it. I tell people about it, and I psych myself into believing how much better life will be once it's done. This year, day before our Thanksgiving, I get joint injections in both hips! I'm so excited. They hurt tlike holy hell. It makes me cry silently. However, I think of the lessened pain I'm gonna have for the next year or two. Once I get to the office, then I'm nervous, but well I have this this sticker sig what does it say: It's not that I don't feel the pain, it's just that I'm not afraid of hurting anymore. I know I'll survive. Anyway, reading also works *Bigsmile* ~Whata

Oh boy, good luck with your injections! I hope they're not too bad and bring you a long time with relief! *Smile*

How do you make yourself do the work? Do you have any tips for having patience?
