Hi everyone. I am thrilled to be your guest editor for this week. It was fun reading new items and appreciate the bravery of everyone who jumped into WDC, and playing with all the features. It takes something to enter into a new world. A few ideas came to mind as I read so forgive anything you may already know!

When you first Create an Item, you find some choices:
Static Item is the choice given to create pieces of writing like poems, stories, bios, articles etc. When you choose a static item, you fill out an edit page and can specify a genre or type from there as well as add your writing, tag line and title and reviewing parameters. I want to start right there.

As I was reading new items and speaking with other authors, a few suggestions came to mind. You may find them useful.
1. When you write your entry in the static item "Your Writing here" box, my humble suggestions are:
Use paragraphs to space your work, especially if it is a long story. Use a readable font as well, not too small.
Put character's individual dialogue on separate lines as well, instead of in the midst of a story paragraph.
This makes it more appealing and easier to read on a computer page. It is also easier for readers to refer to sections if they review you work.
Use spell check or a grammar check, especially if these are not your strength areas. It helps weed out typo errors too. As everyone is busy and volunteer to read our work, it shows respect for yourself, your work and the reader when the basics are in place. As writers we have access to these assistive resources and we want to show our best work.
I have read stories here with fabulous ideas and concepts and in some cases, had to struggle through the typos, spelling and odd language structures or lack of punctuation. Most of us don't mind noting errors, but too many makes it longer to read given we have lives off line too.
Keep on sharing your expression, as it is the important thing. If you get review suggestions and need assistance, seek it out.
Sometimes "New Horizon's Academy" has some cool classes too. And here is a little author note I came across: "Note:
I have begun to write boilerplate language in...".
2. On your static item page, make sure to add some genre options rather than OTHER.
It makes your piece more visible when readers scan under BROWSE by genre or type.... SCI-Fi readers may find you under that genre. Folks who like personal bios, or relationship may look under those genre captions.
Other is too general as a main Genre selection.
3. Poetic works are my favourite reads. Remember that if you use POETRY as a type, allow your writing to have a poetic look to it. I have read some wonderful poetic expressions and yet they are written in a paragraph form. OR perhaps it is PROSE! Even free style poems have some stanza structure. It is great to express your self though, so if not sure of format, you can always read others and ask for some suggestions.
4. On the static item form, sneak a peek und ADVANCED tab and you will see you can set review parameters. Some pieces you may like to have on "reviews only" instead of rate as well, especially if it is a work in progress. and you can also Preserve the spacing you like! Check the link below!

5. Make sure to rate your work as indicated. You can rate your intro lower to get the title out in more places, but mark the content appropriately. It helps readers know what to expect and be able to choose with ease. If you do not rate it, it may get overlooked as some won't take a chance. The WDC really works to make it easy for all levels of writers including teens. Also, be not upset if you see your piece get rerated by WDC Moderators. The blue, purple and red cases may find occasional mistakes in rating and change it. It can be a tough call and a point of view...and is not meant as a judgement of the expression. We have lots of GC and GCX readers and writers and also many who prefer not to read in those ratings. Thanks for working with the system.

So much for my few picky details! The old addage: "Don't sweat the small stuff" still applies so you do not get overwhelmed and will keep writing on!
Now here is a little tip for all of us. Let's not dismiss pieces that have these features that I have mentioned. Even a short email or review suggesting revising spaces, or using spell check can give writers a hint of something being amiss. We can always offer to come read more carefully once changes are made. Always follow your muse and your joy! and Remember everyone has a point of view...take what works for you.
Peace and thanks for reading. Keep on sharing your gift.
