Summertime - Summertime
At least in the WDC hemisphere it is. And hopefully not earthquaking, raining, flooding and occasionally tornado-ing. It's time to relax, enjoy some vacations and perhaps travel. So this newsletter is a reminder about a couple things regarding a change in your routine in the summer.
Inspirations! You're not stuck in the house under a pile of snow, yay! Get out there and explore. When you travel, take loads of pictures and jot down impressions of things you see, taste and observe. How many times are you going to try a grasshopper on a stick? Record your response.
Don't forget us! Stop in to your regular forums and post once in a while...just about every where has a wifi spot or internet so peek in! And if you have obligations, make sure you set reminders so your due date isn't forgotten while you loll by the pool.
Plan! It's going to be the same thing next winter; cold, dull and stuck in the house under a pile of snow. So think about new ideas for contests and activities. Think about getting friends to try something new. Have you ever created an interactive? Or formed a crossword puzzle for members to solve? We even have word searches. Create a list of words while riding (not driving) on a trip.
Me, I'll be in the pool with my grandkids. And trying to keep wet swimsuits off my indoor furniture. And grilling! I'll dream up a contest for the best burger toppings ever! In the meantime, enjoy the nicer weather and don't forget your friends here at WDC!

Excerpt: I love reading short stories. I can't get enough of them.
This is an easy contest. On the first day each month, I'll post two short prompts. Sometimes they will be quotes, other times photos, or songs, or even paintings. I might mix things up and have a quote for one prompt and a photo for the other. I'll also suggest three genres. To enter,
choose a prompt and a genre from the lists below;
write a short story based on the prompt and in the genre you select; and, finally,
post a link to your story here, in the message forum.
Each month, I'll give a merit badge to the author of the story I like best, provided I get at least three stories to read. If I like two or more stories a lot, I'll give more than one merit badge. The story itself also gets an awardicon.
Excerpt: You find yourself on a bench at a bus stop under the spell of a sorcerer. The borders of your perception become fuzzy, there is more to reality here than meets the eye. What can you learn? Don't take it too seriously, though. (Kinda like a Carlos Castaneda tale with a Harlan Ellison twist.) Please rate, and add a chapter or two to keep the story going.
