Information is everywhere!

Here on WDC alone one can search for the help you desire in our reference guide, "Writing.Com 101Open in new Window., from hundreds of groups and forums, from thousands of members, and from hundreds of thousands of items across the site. Obviously one newsletter can't cover every topic. So, each month (for my next several newsletters, at least) I'm going to advertise some aspect of the site.

Let's begin with Advertising. *Wink*

The first thing you can do to advertise yourself is COMPLETE YOUR BIO-BLOCK and BIOGRAPHY Tab. This is the place to tell others abut yourself, your likes and dislikes, your style of writing, and maybe what you hope to accomplish on WDC. An added bonus to completing these items is the receipt of Achievement badges--a form of Community Recognition. But you must actively seek these Achievement badges out. Find them under the Nav Menu in My Account --> My Merit Badges --> Achievement.

Below your Bio-Block is a section called Highlighted Items. Pretty self-explanatory, you can focus attention on up to three items in your Portfolio by placing the Item ID number (just the number, not a bitem link) in the boxes accessed by the gear icon.

Another personal method is using your Signature to advertise specific items, which you can find under the Nav Menu in My Account --> Account Settings --> More Account Settings --> Manage Signature. Every member can create one signature to be automatically placed in emails and forum posts. Signatures are limited to 500 characters in length, but can include text and WritingML. You can advertise one of your items here. Or, you can highlight someone else's item, such as an auction of a group in which you're a member. A couple points to remember:
Icon: Upgraded Membership (Small) Upgraded members and above may include images in their signature.
Icon: Premium Membership (Small) Premium members and above may have multiple signatures assigned for use in different forums and book entries.

WDC offers several other options to advertise your item, activity or contest. List your writing contests on "Writing Contests @ Writing.ComOpen in new Window.; list activities, such as auctions, raffles, non-writing contests or other activities on "Activities @ Writing.ComOpen in new Window.; and list anything else on "The Shameless "Plug" PageOpen in new Window..

Finally, you can sponsor items using the Writing.Com BidClick System. Would you like to see your item or link on more than nine million pages? Check out "BidClick System: Sponsored Items, Links & GenresOpen in new Window. for a detailed explanation of the system and how to use it.

Of one thing I'm certain--your ingenuity and creativity will come up with alternative methods to advertise yourself and your writing. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the system.

Until next month, I'll be looking for you on the pages of Writing,Com. Write on!

Ask & Answer

Thanks for spending time with me today. If you liked what you read (or if you didn't), please take time and drop me a line. I'd love to hear your ideas.

And now, from the mailbag:

From Advent Pumpkin Author Icon: Please remind Newbies to set up the bio. It really helps a reviewer to know if the writer is only ten years old, or has only been writing in English for a year, or if they writing for the first time since high school fifty years ago.
Thanks.

Well said. And if it's not enough that you complete your Bio-Block and Biography page to advertise yourself, then perhaps the Achievement badges will spur you to complete them.

From hbk16: These are good advice on how to render a writing interesting to read. All is important in a writing piece . The kind of writing, the color and the paragraphs are all important items in a writing piece. Good and useful issue!

         Thanks.

From Beholden Author Icon: Thank you very much for your mention of my little story, "James James", in the Editor's Picks. It is much appreciated since this makes an enormous difference to the exposure our writing receives.

         You're welcome. Write on!.

From QueenOwl ~ A New Day Dawns Author Icon: Thanks, Jace, for this informative newsletter topic. I agree with you 100%. There's not a word or suggestion I can add to it or take away from it. I hope we're all listening and learning from it.

         Thanks. I appreciate your support.
