Word Ticket Haiku

experimenting with haiku

In her book "poemcrazy" Susan Goldsmith Wooldridge suggests making and using word-tickets to free your writing. A similar technique is advised by John Fox in his book "Finding What You Didn't Lose". For this technique I use a large roll of carnival-type tickets and put random words on the blank back--I like the metaphor of the "ADMIT ONE" printed on the front.

For this haiku experiment I selected twenty words at random for each piece and created the following:

WORD-TICKET HAIKU

I. Foreplay

Sand is erotic
As is all gypsy music.
Snakes live in cities.


II. Morning Juice

Smooth tangerine blood
dissolves into vitamins.
Mothers are heroes.


III. DreamTime


Sour adults struggle
to cling in Eden's garden.
Venus is rising.


IV. Moonlight


To choose trust alone
the moon glows with gratitude.
The topaz farm grows.
