Some personal thoughts on writing

An Editorial on Writing

I couldn't let another poem escape my pen without letting my voice be heard. I write poems and more specifically, the rhyming kind. Occasionally I screw up and write a freestyle but in general they are rhyming and in four line stanzas. I feel most comfortable with that and it works for me.
My advice to anyone who is writing anything is to find the style that fits them best and stay with it come "Hell or Highwater." Not everyone will agree with it but it will be yours and will work best for you.
Many years ago I first heard a young man by the name of Robert Allen Zimmerman. He was singing a song he had written and composed and though his voice and lyrics were on the rough side he had found a comfortable style all his own.
Now this young man is much older and is still performing those songs and lyrics he found many years earlier and he hasn't lost his simple charm or the style that made him famous.
I was listening to a song of his called "Desolation Row" and yes I am and probably will always be a Bob Dylan fan. The song is 120 lines of rhyme and doesn't always make perfect sense but the fact remains that he stayed with his own style and never changed for anyone or anything. It worked for him then and it's still working for him today and very well.
So I guess what I'm really getting at is to write with your heart and what feels best to you. We're not all Bob Dylan but we work on the same basic levels of understanding and we all tend to write in ways that feel comfortable to us.

Keep the ink in your pens flowing
and the heartstrings growing.
