Earlin's still reeling & dealing with the responsibility of planning a double funeral
Chapter 3

After Leo left, Earlin went back into the bedroom with William right behind her. While he was in the closet searching the attic she was putting the rest of the papers in the boxes.

She looked up when William came out of the closet and laughed.
"What?"
She said, "You should see yourself. You are covered with dust and there are cobwebs in your hair,” and laughed again.
"It is good to see you smile and to hear your laughter. Wait until you see what I found up there..."
"What did you find?"
"It appeared to be all junk, at first, so I crawled up there and started rummaging around... I found Christmas lights, ornaments, and decorations. Behind that were decorations for all of the other major holidays. Then I saw it. You know how I like old things; there was this old trunk. It was one that looks a lot like a treasure chest with a locking lid. I crawled over and opened it. It was full of things, and on top was what looked like a blanket. There were some clothes, pictures, letters, and jewelry."
"Wow! I can't wait to see it. Why didn't you bring anything down with you?"

"I was so excited I forgot," he said looking at her. "You look exhausted."
"I am," she said. "It's only 8:45... Oh. I have to make those calls."
After making the last call she sat down at the kitchen table. The tears ran down her cheeks.
"Honey. Here is a Ruby Red. Drink it and relax." He pulled a chair out and was starting to sit down when the phone rang. He put his pop down and then answered the phone. "Hello."
"Wilhelm."
"Hi Mom."
"I heard on the news about the plane crash. How are Earlin and Lily? Is there anything I can do?"
"Earlin is going through her Mom and Dad's things. She is very strong and doing Okay. Lily and A.J. are asleep. It’s going to be a long night. Earlin wants to get her parents things packed up as quickly as she can."
"Your Vater and I come stay with you."
"Thank you."
"We will be there soon."
Earlin was wiping the tears from her eyes when William sat down next to her. He said, "Mom will be staying with us tonight.”

"I better finish putting things away so there is room for everyone. There isn't much more to do... Ugh, I forgot about everything in the living room. The clothes need to be bagged and the knickknacks will be put into..." she said as she walked into the living room.

William picked up his drink, went and got some bags. He had left some of the boxes by the door so they did not have to go get them out of the bedroom or hallway. By the time he found Earlin she was sitting on the floor amongst the clothes separating them into his and hers piles. He put his pop down next to the couch. He put all except one bag down. After opening up the big black bag he still held he started putting the clothes from the nearest pile into it.
Once everything was separated Earlin picked up some store bags and a box. She took them into the bedroom and very carefully put all of her mom's kickshaws in the bags and then in the box so nothing would get broken.
Finally everything was packed and ready to be put in the storage unit. It was too late to call around for a storage unit so they stacked everything in the corner of the dining room. The boxes with the important papers and brick-a-bracs were put back into the closet so they could go through them at their own pace.
Earlin went and got her pop then sat down in the recliner in front of the TV while William did the dishes. The news was on and it showed pictures from the crash. Earlin started to squall. William dried his hands and went running to her. He turned the TV off, picked her up, and held her in his lap on the chair. While they were sitting there, her sobbing, there was a knock on the door.
"The door’s open," he called.

If you read this chapter post what you think... Without any feedback the chapter won't get fixed - if fixing is what it needs. If you don't read it post a message explaining why not.

Some questions you might ask yourself while reading are:
1) Why is a sixteen year old girl taking charge when she could easily let her fiance and his parents do it?

2) How can Earlin find it in herself to laugh at William when she hasn't allowed herself to grieve?

3) Where did the old trunk and it's contents come from and why is it in the attic?

What other suggestions do you have on Chapter 3?

Thanks,

Charity
