of what silent tears we once knew
Of what silent tears we once knew
Above the bitter, bitter earth,
Out of bothered bliss the balm grew
From kind death to cruel rebirth.
Below the blessed blooming blue
On sea of grass and hill of mirth,
Of what silent tears we once knew;
Of what steep dollar is its worth.

Of what silent tears we once knew
For promised kiss and lying touch,
For a moment with nothing new
But to scream, to grunt, and to clutch.
Why did God, Fate, or Time imbue
To the world in one moment so much?
Of what silent tears we once knew,
Of what a tingling taste is touch.
