The morning was cold and dark,
And I sleepy-eyed when I woke up;
Yes, everything looked dark and grey,
To me, who had cobwebs in her eye.
I went about stumbling in the dark,
Sleepwalking as it were, knocking against things.
Still I would not wake, for I had cobwebs in my eyes
That simply would not brush off.
Then I dropped some chocolate upon myself,
It had to be washed off IMMEDIATELY,
And a shaft of bright sunlight lit upon my face,
All of a sudden my cobwebs vanished into thin air.
And the day was bright, and the morning fresh,
As I stood by the door viewing the dewy grass.
Two tailor birds hopped on the grass, picking seeds;
A magpie robin joined them, but no cobwebs were to be seen.
