Tis the night before Christmas
as I sit in my house
when I realize, in sorrow
I forgot it's about
The birth of my Savior
not tinsil and tin
about hope for the nations,
forgiveness of sin
I look at the presents
all wrapped with such care
seeing the gift
not visibly there
The gift from my Father
who reigns up above
swaddled, a manger
sent by His love
I think of the trips
I made to the store
buying the items
my loved ones adore
But all is like ashes
as I ponder this thought
no gift is near equal
to salvation He bought
The night passes quickly
now it's Christmas morn
I tell all the children
how Jesus was born
After our dinner
I bring out the cake
that somehow I managed
to hurriedly make
And we all sing to Jesus
"Happy birthday to You"
Christmas, more special
pondering, too
It's not about presents,
some bought on a whim
It's all about Jesus;
remembering Him...
