Missing You My Friend

She grew up with him,
He was always there,
Which is why they were both so unaware,
Oblivious to how cold the world could be,
Blinded by friendship so that they couldn’t see,
But the pain heart ache was growing near,
Separation, their greatest fear.

He lived right down the road,
In a little house with a small window,
The window he snuck out to come and play,
The window that is still there to this day,
Kickball and football down the street,
A double that just couldn’t be beat.

Summer swimming in the lake,
Ice cream and pizza on her birthday,
Burying time capsules in the fall,
Deflating six hundred soccer balls,
But time were changing both of them knew,
And worst of all there was nothing they could do.

No longer children and no longer kids,
The innocence was gone, replaced by sins,
She moved away to another home,
A place with no boy, all alone,
Still they tried to see each other in vain,
Wishing and wanting for things to be the same.

Yet summer came again and fall too,
For two more years it was all they could do,
She waited for him and him for her,
The years passing as nothing but a blur,
“Come back to me!” they both cried in despair,
The love and friendship still evident there.

Then finally it was his turn and he too moved away,
Left without a word and nothing to say,
He moved to a place that she couldn’t follow,
Leaving her crying and drowning in her sorrow,
Soon she realized that this was the end,
So she said goodbye and would forever be-
“Missing you my friend”.
