FREEDOM


to follow the path of the stars
the line of the drinking gourd
to True North, our own Polar Star
the quincunx we circle around
tracing sine curves of doubt and epiphany,
acceptance and resistance,
bondage and liberation,
but before this,
for everyone,
a bowl of rice,
clean water.
