A short poem that entails a brief encounter between a boy and a rabbit.
As I passed an old vineyard,
I saw a rabbit standing guard.
With his whiskers long,
He warbled his song,
As I was passing by!
"Oh, I stand here full to the brim,
So full that I can hardly swim.
But, no fiendish cad can pass I,
A fox, a bear or a Jackdaw's eye.
Leave me no fortune, proper and prim,
Though I admit my whiskers need a trim.
Don't touch my pleasure, rascal lad,
Or I'll add your name to my List Of Cad!"
He left, a-hopping away from me,
To trim his whiskers or for a spot of tea.
As he came back, he said to me rather strong,
"I'm glad you drank no wine when I was gone!"
