Andy's Poem - Back from Iraq

You cannot see…
         faces that haunt
                   sounds that taunt
         ghosts that walk
                   behind closed eyes
         tears that yearn to flow

You cannot hear…
         screams from lips
                   that will never leave
         thunder that rolls
                   within a pulse
         silence that echoes within

You cannot know…
         shudders that crawl
                   through veins
         sweat that pours
                   in cool night air
         anger that threatens to show
                   
You cannot help…
         hide the faces
         end the screams
         stir the silence
                   but you do.
