I'll Never Date Again

We dated some, quite long ago
Just what happened, I don’t know.
We grew apart, you didn’t call
And we weren’t speaking in the fall.
You went away to go to college
Supposedly to gain some knowledge,
While I stayed home to go to work
Thinking you were such a jerk.
I got a job to ease the pain
And said I’d never date again.

But then I met another guy
Decided I’d give him a try.
He made me cry, he made me laugh
I took him for my better half.
We moved around from state to state
Until my love turned into hate.
I saw the judge, took back my name
And said I’d never date again.

I got two jobs and worked real hard
Bought a small house with a big back yard,
A dog, a pool, and an SUV—
Life was getting good for me.
To attend a wedding I went back home
My cousin said I shouldn’t go alone
Her hubby would bring along his brother
And we could have fun with each other.

I just froze when I saw your face
But I couldn’t escape with any grace
So we went to the wedding, you asked me to dance
And I knew I was ready for another romance.
Next day you called and asked me to dinner
And maybe a movie, that was a winner.
You wined me and dined me--we skipped the show
When the restaurant closed, we hated to go.

I went back home—you called every day
We dated when we could get away.
With a glass of champagne and a diamond band
On bended knee you asked for my hand.
Now you and the judge are waiting for me
And I’m as happy as a woman can be.
Even though I’m not changing my name
I’m never going to date again.
