Took an online quiz to find out my inner european. Dutch. Wasn't exactly what I expected.
I took an online quiz earlier. Here are my results and my response.

Your Inner European is Dutch!
Open minded and tolerant.
You're up for just about anything.

I have to doubt the veracity of this quiz. Me: open minded? Perhaps. Yet one doesn’t want to be so open minded that his or her brain falls out. Tolerant? I’d hardly call myself so. I am seemingly not very tolerant of my results am I’m certainly not tolerant of stupidity or brash actions. Which brings me to “up for just about anything.” Hmm. I’m up for what my close friends are up for, though I trust their judgments with every fiber in my being as we sort of think along the same lines (but they’re much kinder). But if it’s the kind of friend that is brash or stupid, I will not tolerate their opinions of a night out on Bourbon or even to the Hammond Buzz. Ha! I have just come full circle on thoughts of this quiz without even trying.

As much as I was surprised by such results, I am Dutch by heritage. Granted it’s on my father’s side, and we all know them to be absolutely out of their minds. (Open minded, someone more polite might say? Oh dear God what am I saying! **clears throat** Back to the topic at hand.) My very last name is Dutch. When I was in the sixth grade we did a report on what each name in our full name means. I did all four of mine: first, middle, first last name, last- last name. Dad told me that he thought his last name, my last-last name, meant “wooden shoe.” I was a bit disappointed to say the least. I fantasized myself to be some great former heiress from some rich but extinct line of Dutch aristocracy whose great ancestor squandered away the family fortune and hoped to regain it in the New World. And all I got was this wooden shoe.

I wrote it down anyway, or should I say had mom type the report, without doing an inch of research. Who was I to doubt my father’s noble intellect? **insert evil laugh here** Turns out a week after the report was due he received some insight into his family name. My last-last name really translates to “one of extreme power and wealth” or something of that nature. My theory (or fantasy) does have some basis for fact! Never doubt your intuition! Yet my victory is short lived. Obviously that power and wealth has deteriorated into an oven that doesn’t work. So much for reheating that pizza.
