A poem about trying to love someone after giving up on love because of hurt and betrayal.
I hold his life in my hands.

No. That’s wrong.

I hold something much more valuable.

He has entrusted me with his soul.

Was he wrong to do so?

Can I possibly be worthy?

He looks at me.

I cannot hold his gaze.

I am lucky to have found him.

He is honest, giving, and faithful.

Someone a person could trust and even love.

Yet, I am afraid.

Love had not been kind to me.

Used and left desolate I have built up walls around my heart.

No matter how hard I try,

I cannot open myself to another.

My mind tells me to place my trust in him.

But my heart is dead and unresponsive.

Perhaps, with time, he can revive it.

Bring back the feelings I had locked away.

Perhaps not.
