As russet hues of sunset morph to velvet black,
the ghosts of summer whisper in our ready ears
and reminisce about romantic escapades,
inviting us to one concluding episode.
We build a fire and roast some oysters on the beach.
A harvest moon is gliding ‘cross the spangled sky
while we are tangled up in love between the dunes
and wish this season stretched the distance of a dream.
We’re grasping each and ev’ry cherished moment now.
Too soon, we’ll have to turn the page of Nature’s book
to find that winter clouds will cloak the light of day
and chilling winds will snuff the vibrant flame of youth.
