A sestina written in memory of love lost
REGRETS

I listen to the rain
tap the roof like music,
sending me, entranced, to daydream.
I see visions of you,
how you looked in the end.
You surround me in spirit.

How troubled is your spirit?
You went with the rain,
marking an untimely end
to your sweet, gentle music.
Was that really you?
Or was it just a dream,

a nightmare, a hideous dream,
that muffled the spirit
of how I feel for you,
drowning me in monsoon rain,
trampling our music,
bringing love to end?

“Love never ends”
that’s why I still dream
and place your memory to music,
ghostly in spirit
and calm like the rain,
sighing goodbye to you.

I hadn’t spoke to you,
since our bitter end,
standing in the rain.
“See you in my dreams,”
you said with blue spirit,
as you handed me a cassette of your music.

I can’t hear that music
without wanting for you,
searching for  spirit,
wishing the anguish to end
and to exit my dream
of soaking with love in the rain.

The rain of soft music
falls, and I dream of you
and my end, gone with the Spirit.
