Silence is not the absence of sound. Find out more. |
Silence Calls Silence calls, a whisper in my soul. I search for moments when noise recedes from my world. Mostly, I search in vain. Then, Silence said to me, "It matters not if you can’t find me, I’m always there just below the hum of your days. I am not the absence of sound, I am the absence of noise inside your head, drowning the voice of your soul. Release the worry, fear, resentments that often linger here, spinning around behind your cluttered mind. Then call me, and you will hear my voice." And I said to the silence, "even though I know you’re there, noise and loneliness still creep inside my soul, leaving only dust and debris. But I will remember your words and pray for moments when life in this crazy world fills my soul with laughter." Then Silence winked at me and said, "What more could I ask of you, my child, but that which you have already become?" SWPoet _______________________________________________ Earlier version below. Then, Silence said to me, "It matters not if you can’t find me, I’m always there just below the hum of your days. I am not the absence of sound, I am the absence of noise inside your head, drowning the voice of your soul. Release the anger, worry, fear, resentments that often linger here, spinning around behind cluttered minds. Then, call me and you’ll hear my words. You’re never alone, please know that God and I will always reside within you." But sometimes, even though I know you’re there, you and God, noise and loneliness will still creep inside my soul. But I will remember your words and pray for moments when life in this crazy world fills my soul with laughter. Then Silence winked at me and said, "What more could God and I ask of you, my child, but that which you have already become?" SWPoet Below is the original poem using a very specific form. Above, I changed the phrasing to how it would sound if read out loud, without the form constraints. Silence Calls Silence calls, a whisper in my soul.
