First Fish is a rhyming poem for children.

          First Fish

Dad and I went to the lake
Catfish, bass we hoped to take.
We carried poles and worms and hooks
A creel to hold the fish we took.

We couldn’t see much for the fog,
So we sat right down upon a log.
We baited hooks and cast our lines,
felt the chill and smelled the pines.

Pretty soon I felt a tug,
Something bigger than a bug.
I turned the handle on my reel,
And then I gave a real, loud squeal!

A fish was dangling from my line,
And it was looking pretty fine!
Dad took my fish right off the hook,
And gave to me his proudest look.

We took it home for Mom to see,
She was really glad for me.
I didn’t tell you this before,
Catching my first fish was quite a chore!
