We went to the funeral home,
to pick up Mom's ashes.
It was so surreal,
I wanted to run, but I knew I had to be
strong.
My brother made a joke as he always does,
He opened up the lid and seen her necklace,
and told the director,
"yes, this is the right one."
I stood amazed,
as he continued to ask
if we got a discount for a bad hairdo.
My Mom did look pitiful
with her hair slicked back.
We put her cardboard urn in the backseat with
me,
I put the seatbelt around it,
and climbed in on the other side,
for a 120 mile ride.
I was really quite uncomfortable,
and didn't know to do or say.
She wanted to be buried next to my Dad;
It all was so surreal and oh, so sad,
we got to the cemetary,
and I was the one that carried her urn,
my brother never offered to take a turn.
The director was waiting there,
we said a quick prayer,
and headed for Jackpot, Nevada,
My brother won a big jackpot,
we headed home,
not saying a whole lot.
