I Want to be Some Else’s Back Bone A reason I went info Health Care is because I love to help people. I used to be a Pharmacy Technician at Walgreen’s Specialty Pharmacy. We made sure patient’s refilled their medication every month. These patient’s had serious health conditions such as Multiple sclerosis, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, children that need growth hormone and several other disease states. I wanted to be there 24/7 to answer those calls. I wanted to direct and help people as much as I could. All ages would be so frustrated, they would cry and yell. Not because we wasn’t helping but because they was ill, weak, brittle. I felt like I had to be their back bone. Their insurance company didn’t care if the patient’s got their medication or not. That would be costing them money if they received it. Some of the people would be so thankful and remember how much you helped them that they would only want to speak with you. Even when everything was flowing. I had several TLC patients. My grandpa has prostate cancer and was on an expensive medication once his insurance company didn’t cover it. He’s on a fixed income. Once he reached the gap on Medicare Part D his medication was about $1500.00 a month. Not to include 5 or 6 other medications that he would have to pay cash for. Kroger and my grandparents had exchanged words several times. Kroger’s final words were there’s was nothing that they could do. I was furious that they didn’t advise them to contact a local church, manufacture of the drug or drug assistant programs. I ended up having to assist him and ddirect him and he got his medication at no cost till the gap was over. And that’s the difference between needing your job and truly caring. I always thought think of them as a relative of yours. |
