A sad princess

For the Fantastic Fantasy Five Contest

Once upon a time there was a Princess,
Who dwelt in luxury and excess.

Though lavished with gold and jewellery she was sad,
A Prince of nearby kingdom about her was mad.

He offered his love but she refused,
Within herself she felt emotions confused.

She was always weeping , no one knew why,
Her beautiful face was perturbed and wry.

The Prince ardently kept awaiting her,
Though there was no sign of approval from her.

After a year the Prince lost hope,
He hung himself by a rope.

Then she realized what she had done,
She was filled with remorse, shared by none.

Her guilty feelings were filled with fear,
Her penitent voice reached no ear.

Misery overwhelmed her, leaving her to flounder
until she lost her senses.That's how they found her.
