Two short stories about life in an optimistic point of view.
“Beep, Beep,” the alarm clock told Joelle while she was just getting her last few precious minutes of sleep. Joelle instantly woke up and smiled. She then hopped out of her bed, stretched her arms up to the ceiling, and smacked her alarm clock, and said, “Thank you, for another day.”
She grabbed her bathrobe and her polka dot towel and tip-toed into her bathroom. Everyone in the house was still sleeping, and she didn’t want to disturb their dreams. She waited for the shower to heat up, then it was just right, and she jumped into the shower and washed her hair with her fruity shampoo.
It was 5:45 A.M. Joelle went outside with wet hair and in her bathrobe. Like every other day, she went and grabbed the newspaper that was just tossed onto her fresh dew lawn. “Good Morning,” she shouted, as she waved at Charlie, the man who delivered the paper every morning.
Joelle walked back inside her house with the newspaper under her arm. She set the paper right next to her father’s kitchen table chair, and then she began making a nice, hot pot of coffee.
“Good Morning, Cleveland, it is 6:00 A.M, and it’s a nice, clear day,” said the radio on Julia’s nightstand. “Shut up!” she shouted, as she smacked the SNOOZE button on her alarm clock. “Just five more minutes, please,” she thought to herself.
Joelle was still downstairs and smiled as she set a nice, tall glass of orange juice and a plate of pop-tarts next to her sister Julia’s kitchen table chair. She then set a nice pink grapefruit next to her dad’s newspaper.
“Thanks Joelle,” said her father, and he gave her a good-morning hug and kiss.
Joelle went back upstairs and saw Julia just getting out of bed. Julia walked out of her room, and Joelle said, “Good Morning Julia.”
“Move over,” said Julia, as Julia walked into the bathroom.
Julia began muttering to herself, “I am going to fail that English test today; I just know it, I didn’t study…, “while she was flat ironing her hair. She then overloaded her face with make-up and threw on a tight shirt and short skirt. She looked at herself in the mirror, and then after an eye roll, “Whatever,” is what she muttered.
Joelle’s hair was finally dry. It was long and curly, and she no longer flat-ironed like Julia. She sprayed her hair with hairspray a few times and was ready to go.
Joelle walked into her closet and picked out a pair of jeans and a nice bright top. She went back into the bathroom one last time. She put on a little blush, some mascara, and lip gloss.
She looked at herself in the mirror and mentally said,
“Today is going to be a great day.”

------------------------Story 2:

Colton was carrying his huge hockey bag as he was walking toward his father’s car. He was very tired and full of sweat, but he had a great hockey practice.
John, Colton’s father, parked the car and went out and opened the trunk for Colton.
“Hey, son how was your practice today?” asked John.
“It was great!! Coach said that he will have me play goalie next game,” replied Colton.
         “Awesome,” said his father.
John and Colton started driving away, and they decided to pick up some Wendy’s. John ordered Chili and fries, and Colton ordered a single with cheese, fries, and a strawberry milkshake.
“Boom boom boom, gotta get-get, Boom boom boom, gotta get-get, Boom boom boom, gotta get-get.” Colton’s cell phone started ringing a Black eyed-peas song. The cell phone displayed the words, “Mom.”
         “Hello?” said Colton.
“Where are you guys? I want you to get home and take a shower. I want to wash your hockey uniform,” his mom said.
“We went to Wendy’s, we will be home in five minutes,” Colton said.
“Ugh. Wendy’s? What am I suppose to do with the dinner I made you?”
         “I…I am sorry,” he said.
         “Whatever…just get home.”
         Click.
John put his hand on Colton’s knee and rubbed it a little. Colton looked at him and smiled.
When Colton and John made it home, Colton threw his hockey uniform in the laundry room, and started walking upstairs.
“Hey Colton, hurry up with your shower, I want to play Rock Band and I need another person to jam with,” his father said, winking.
         “Ok!” said Colton.
Colton took his shower and met his father in the basement. John was the drummer, and Colton was the bass guitar.
Their team work earned them a few three stars, a lot of four stars, and then a consecutive five times of five stars. They were rocking at the game, and they didn’t realize it was already 11:06 P.M.
         Colton’s mother stormed downstairs.
“WHAT are you guys DOING?! It is already eleven, Colton has school tomorrow! Stop playing right now and get to bed!!” she shouted.
Colton said good night, and ran upstairs.
         Paige looked at her husband.
“You take him to Wendy’s, and now this? What is wrong with you?!” she exclaimed.
John looked down and didn’t know what to say at first.
         He finally said,
“I am sorry, I was just trying to live in the moment and enjoy my time with my son.”
Paige considered this, while she watched her husband turn off the video game.
Paige walked upstairs and pulled out a bag of popcorn and two cokes from the fridge. She went over to the shelf next to the television, and selected the film, Rudy, John’s favorite.
John walked upstairs, and noticed the full basket of popcorn and two cokes on the kitchen table. Before Paige could go back and get them, John grabbed them and walked towards her into the family room. She sat down on the couch, and John sat next to her. Paige pressed “Play” on the remote.
“I am sorry, I understand now. I love you,” she said.
         “I love you too.”
John and Paige did not work tonight on grading papers or preparing a presentation that was a week from now. Tonight, they watched a movie together, and just lived in the moment.
