A poem about wanting someone who doesn't want you back.
You’d wrap your arms around my shoulders,
But I’d drop them like huge weight and boulders;
You’d always wished to hold my hand,
But I made clear this act was banned.

Because you’d have killed to have me,
And of you I’d never have.

You’d tell me how pretty I may be,
But compliments don’t come without a fee.
You’d ask me out everyday,
And I’d say “later” just to keep you away!

Because you’d have killed to have me,
And of you I’d never have.

And you insisted on talking to me all the time!
But I just said “You’re out of line!”

Because you’d have killed to have me,
And of you I’d never have.

Then you said “Bye, never, no way,”
All I could say was “No wait, stay!”
Next you stated “I’m fed up, it’s over, we’re done,”
But I just said “Please don’t go, it’s just begun!”

Because you’d have nothing to do with me,
And of you I’d always have.

Next you ceased talking to me without regret,
All I could do was sit there and fret;
I’d watch you talk to other girls,
While I just tried to flaunt my curls,

Because you’d have nothing to do with me,
And of you I’d always have.

And finally you continued to mess with my head
Like I had a chance before I was dead!

Because you’d have nothing to do with me,
And of you I’d always have.

But please don’t say “baby, I want you back,”
Because I’ll respond “of you I’ll forever lack.”

Because you’d have killed to have me,
And of you I’d never have.
