This poem was written for my dad
We may not get along
You may not have been there for many years
But you’re still my dad
I still have half of your blood

Dad
You have taught me many things
We may not have had the traditional memories
Teaching me to shave, playing catch
We have shared our own

Dad
You taught me how to survive
Literally
You spent many nights on the streets
You always had a creative mind and it served you well

Dad
You may not have been the best father
But you turned your act around
You tried to atone later in my life
It did bring us closer

Dad
I love you very much
I never tried to hurt you with my actions
I did what I had to do even if it meant I had to cause pain
Pain that was necessary
