The Baton

Symbolic though it is important still
Carried by Christians who relate God's will

The office which this baton signifies
Filled by those whose action testifies

They spread the word of His promise
For those who accept Him, eternal solace

My feeble efforts to carry the baton
Seem to get weaker as time wears on

His plan is perfect; no need for concern
A new baton bearer is born to learn

Her Christian parents will teach her well
Preparing her to carry the baton for a spell

I must pass the baton to a daughter or son
When I know my part of the race is run

Daniela Denise has raised hope in me
A fleet footed bearer in my mind I see

My strides are shorter; my time nearly gone
I'm preparing to pass to Daniela the baton
