Confinement

Tears welled up in my son’s eyes, looking at a bear in the zoo which lay limp on the ground. 

“Will it die?” was his innocent question.

“Of course not” was my blatant lie.

I took my son home.

The morning newspaper screamed aloud “Bear dies in the confinement of zoo.”

I hid the paper.
