A salute why Valentine's is nothing special at all. |
"An Ode to the Day" Three cheers for the day which no one quite understands. Raise your voice and throw up your hands. This day, of course, remembers Saint Valentine, A man who apparently enjoys greetings cards and cheap wine. This day, for years, has left us either cold or hot, Whether we’re single or whether we’re not. This day does not care and neither, I say, should we! For on this day, I now express, how much you all mean to me. For whatever the reason, you are receiving this rhyme And I hope you’ll understand, but all in good time, Why I send you this little ditty. You see, it’s to stop us from all feeling, ahem, moving on... You, dear reader, you mean the world. So large! No gift company or card shop could ever charge Enough to grant a form of expression That conveys these feelings of care and compassion. So I say to you on this Valentine’s Day, Put those chocolates and roses away! Yes they are pleasant and nice to receive, But veiled in commercialism, they strive to deceive! This day is no different to any other, So go forth and share love with Sister and Brother. Why must we be given a special “love” day When all our emotions are still here to stay? So my message and gift to you all this year Is this poem of love that I hope brings you cheer. And know that these feelings are heartfelt and true And shall last longer than today so please, keep them with you. |
