This is a poem about a person's dilemma between "belonging" and "being independent". |
All my life, I have been trying to do things, Just one way, That’s On my own! When I was a baby, And couldn’t balance my neck, Still wanted to look up, On my own! A little older, I had wobbly legs, Still, wanted to run, On my own! Couldn’t hold a spoon, While having food, Yet, wanted to eat, On my own! Had tough time there, Holding a pencil, Yet wanted to write, On my own! Kids learnt bike riding, With supports, But I learnt mine, On my own! A nice degree, A big hole in dad’s pockets, But I got mine On my own! Family to accompany, For driving lessons, No, I had mine, On my Own! So many referrals, They need for a job, But I got mine, On my own! So why is it, I was heart broken, When my love told me, I am on my own? |
