How media condition the mind of the people
How media condition the minds of the people....

“With his overwhelming mandate, president-elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III declared….”

Opening statement of a news article: A New Dawn for Democracy, 10June 2010 issue of Philippine Star.

This statement would make us believe that Aquino got the majority of the 36 million votes cast last May 10, 2010 Presidential Election.

This is how media conditions the minds of the people and eventually controls the peoples’ emotions and actions.

Statement like this would conditions our minds that the majority of the electorate has spoken in favor of Aquino,  “Vox populi vox Dei” so the media would make us believe.

Media should be fair and truthful in presenting the news to the people. Unless it is being paid and used by some people to say otherwise to condition our minds to believe in something they want us to believe!

Arguably, “mandate” could be taken in a different context that would support the idea of having been elected by the majority.

But objectively and let me say again, that Aquino never had an overwhelming mandate to be the president of the Philippines. He was elected by 15 million voters and there are 36 million Filipinos who cast their votes.

Therefore, wherever we look at at it, there are 21 million Filipinos who do not want him to be their president, so it is wrong to say he got an “overwhelming mandate”.

With this simple analysis, he is then the president of the minority rather than the majority.

And media should clearly state this fact!

DO NOT MAKE US BELIEVE IN SOMETHING THAT IS NOT TRUE!
