After Sonic saves Amy from Dr. Eggman, they discover a brand new threat.
The famed blue hero was rushing off the Egg Carrier as fiery explosions came at his from all sides. But he had to run, he had to make it out of this ship. For he was running with a cherished friend in his arms. The pink hedgehog cried a bit as the blazes nearly scorched them both. Amy hid her head in Sonic's chest as the hero ran as fast as he could, his red sneakers barely touching the ground. Eggman had already deployed his escape ship and cursed the hedgehog as he flew away. Seeing the light Sonic leaped from the carrier and onto the wing of the X Tornado, piloted of course by Sonic's best friend. Setting Amy down behind Tails, Sonic noticed she was still crying. Kneeling down as his friend kept the plane steadily flying away from the flaming carrier. Trying to comfort her, Sonic put his right gloved hand on her head.

"What'sa matter Ames? You're safe now and Egghead is down for the count."

Bawling she could barely form words as she suddenly started crying much harder. She clung to her hero and lover's hand nuzzling her head on his arm. Reaching down, the Blue Blur hugged Amy tightly trying to stop her tears. Succeeding a little bit he began to speak again.

"It's all better now Amy. You're okay."

If only what the male said was true. Unfortunately Tails wasn't flying quickly enough to escape the blast radius when the Egg Carrier finally exploded. All the ship's parts fell into the ocean below and the blast shook the X Tornado so violently that Sonic and Amy were knocked out of the plane. Amy cried much harder now, clinging to Sonic for dear life. Sonic wasn't too keen on this himself since he couldn't swim. It was a miserable predicament and Sonic yelled to his twin-tailed friend who was trying to turn around.

"Tails! How about a little help over here?!"

Tails had barely turned around before a golden ring was thrown to his best friend. As Sonic took the ring in hand, it began to give off a warm, golden light. Holding onto Amy tight Sonic spoke up.

"Hang on Ames, this is going to be a bit rough."

Using the ring's power Sonic began to spin at a rapid pace as he held Amy. She silenced as she felt herself floating and also spinning so fast that opening her mouth may cause her to vomit. Tails looked at the pink and blue sphere in the air as it flung itself towards shore. As soon as the ball landed on the beach nearby, Sonic stopped spinning only to find Amy was disoriented and still sniffling a bit over the whole experience. She was captured by Eggman again, but what he showed her was horrifying. The same hedgehog that Eggman had been creating with jet black quills still scared her. Walking over to her, Sonic simply waved to his buddy in the air signaling he was okay. But what was that in the sky? It looked like an odd black streak. Shaking it off he watched Tails fly away as he went to get Amy. Taking he hand gently and sitting on the sand Sonic smiled weakly.

"Are you okay Amy? You were really shaken up back there."

Shaking a bit she hugged Sonic again, one lone tear or two still flowing down her cheeks.

"I'm okay. I'm always okay whenever you're around."

Raising her head to let her eyes of jade meet his of emerald green she nuzzled her head into his chest on the beach. Sonic smiled awkwardly knowing Amy was back to normal, aside from a pair of wet cheeks. About to speak up he noticed Amy had fallen asleep on top of him. Gently adjusting himself to put the sleeping Amy in his arms, Sonic began to walk off towards the Mystic Ruins. But along the way he could help notice how cute Amy was when she was asleep. Right now she was just about the cutest thing he'd ever seen. When she was asleep she seemed so innocent. So beautiful. Shaking off those thoughts in an instant, Sonic walked on trying not to look at Amy the rest of the way. But little did he know that a metallic hedgehog clenched his cold, steel hands into a fist.

Eventually reaching Mystic Ruins, Tails greeted Sonic silently as Amy was unknowingly put in Sonic's bed by the bed's owner. What shocked Sonic though was that as soo as he stepped a few feet away from her Amy began to toss and turn. Where was he? Amy was on the Egg Carrier when it was about to explode and Sonic abandoned her? She began to cry again, at least until Sonic sat on the floor next to the bed which silenced her again. Confused as ever, Sonic now found himself stuck in place as Amy cuddled his head in her sleep. She needed a hero... no, she needed Sonic. No other hero cared in the way he did, even is he didn't always show it. She loved him and never wanted to let him go.

After a while and after Sonic's legs falling asleep, Amy's eyes slowly blinked open. She smiled at her Sonic plushie kissing it on the head once. Looking around though she found herself confused. This wasn't her room. She was in the Mystic Ruins by the look of the undergrowth outside. Which would mean... She yelped and pulled away at the realization that she had just kissed Sonic without even knowing. She was going to have some serious explaining to do. Especially over the plush copy of her love. Speaking frantically she tried to put a story together.

"Sonic! I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I thought I was home and and..."

Blushing profusely at the kiss Sonic just remained still, thankful his back was turned to her the hole time. But the way she nuzzled and cuddled him while he was asleep felt good. Better than good even. He loved the feeling of her saying his name in her sleep. He loved her being that close. He turned around to Amy his rosy cheeks still as pink as ever.

"It's alright Ames. You had rough day, it happens to all of us."

Why was Sonic blushing? Brushing off her trademark red dress, Amy spoke up, her blushing hidden by the natural color of her quills.

"Sonic? Why are you blushing?"

How did he answer? He loved her? They were friends, great ones, but love? Sonic knew Amy chased him and vied for his heart but he had told her time and time again he didn't fell that way. Now what? Trying to process his feelings Sonic spoke up.

"Amy I..."

BANG! Something got torn apart downstairs. Immediately on his feet Sonic rushed downstairs. What happened? Was Tails alright? He was answered by the sight. Tails was one the ground, seemingly unconscious next to the door which had been blasted off its hinges. With a look of determination on his face Sonic looked to his new foe, as did Amy who was watching from upstairs and had already seen the black monstrosity. It's right foot was on his friend's head while it's piercing red eyes noticed Sonic. Moving it's right foot, the robot kicked Tails against the far wall, exposing the red streaks on its back. Infuriated Sonic challenged Metal Shadow.

"That was a big mistake faker, and now you're going to learn why."

Registering that statement as a threat, the machine locked it's gaze with Sonic's before they rushed at each other. Sonic tried to swing his right arm in for a punch but the robot simply took his hand in its own and threw him next to Tails. Crashing against the wall, Sonic staggered to his feet before rushing at it again, this time condensing his body to roll as a spiked ball at the abomination. Watching it roll, Metal Shadow simply lifted his right foot up and swung forward, kicking the ball with such force Sonic got sent through a wall.  Getting up again, Sonic jumped into the air and tried a drop kick. Metal Shadow would not be so easily defeated. The robot grabbed the foot Sonic tried to use and threw him upstairs, crashing right next to Amy, too weak to get up. As the white plate on his chest glowed, Metal Shadow vanished from the spot, only to appear right next to Amy. Screaming she feebly tried to run from Eggman's greatest creation, but it grabbed her by her neck, it's icy cold fingers wrapping around her throat as it pulled her back. Staggering to his feet Sonic looked to the robot with an intense glare. Metal Shadow didn't respond. After using Chaos Control once, it was to weak to do so twice so quickly. Instead the rockets in his feet ignited, three flames appearing from each of the red soles. Metal Shadow swung Amy into his grasp before taking off through the door where he left.

Sonic was badly injured, but ran anyway. He followed Metal Shadow, running as fast as he could fly. He wasn't going to let that machine outrun him, especially when his love needed him the most.
