Awaiting Sleep

Awake in the dark
waiting for unconsciousness
wishing that there were
a monster under the bed
a creature in the closet
to devour my soul

For once there was night
on a past summers day
no longer does it linger
this faded memory gone

A shadowed life forgotten
to pass the time till death
We wait for madness sadly
as it crumbles at our feet
