Necessity Matters

      To define a word that you don't quite understand is illogical. Necessity. What could this word possibly mean? I see it all the time and never wonder what the true meaning is. I just assume. The purpose of this essay is to inform the public what necessity means.
      In the dictionary necessity means the following: the condition or quality of being needed, something dictated by invariable physical laws, force exerted by circumstance, or and urgent need or desire. It says that the origin of necessity is middle English. Necessity is the idea that everything that has ever happened and ever will happen is wanted.
      Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach once said "A musician cannot move others unless he too is moved. He must of necessity feel all the affects that he hopes to arouse in his audience, for the revealing of his own humor will stimulate a like humor in the listener." Bach is expressing his feelings on music with the usage of necessity. In this quote, necessity is used as the condition of having to. The importance of the word necessity is used to show emotions. Sometimes if it is hard for one to express how they feel. Necessity is a word to place that feeling. "A bizarre necessity just overcame me."
      Necessity is also used in religion. Catholics say that religion "denotes a strict connection between different beings, or the different elements of beings, or between a being and its existence." Catholics believe that it is knowledge to know the meanings of words and their philosophy, or technical concepts and practicality. Catholics say there are three standards of necessity: Metaphysical necessity, physical necessity, and moral necessity. Metaphysical necessity is absolute and consists of the concept that a thing is a thing. Nothing else. Physical necessity is believing in the laws of nature. Moral necessity is the need to apply to the activity of "free beings." This is like when men act a certain way the want (need) to.
      Necessity is critical for the question of free will. In an apocalyptic world the possibility of not having freedom is plausible. It will become a necessity to wear a certain uniform. A have to. Some people use the word necessity in the place of chance or certainty. This is wrong! Necessity is used to express emotions and religious affairs. It is not a 100% truth, or certainty. It is a state or fact of being in need. And antonym for necessity is possibility or contingency. These words mean that this happens by chance, like flipping a coin and it landing on heads or tails.
    Jacques Monod wrote a book called Chance and Necessity in 1970. This book interprets the process of Darwin's theory of evolution to show that life is only a result of acting on "pure chance." The book's title was inspired by a line credited to Democritus, "Everything existing in the universe is the fruit of chance and necessity."
    Is it necessity or luxury? Luxuries are wants that you would like to have and can cost a lot. Food, water, and shelter are necessities. These are urgent needs that have to satisfied or a being could end up dead. Love, joy, and warmth are also considered necessities. This is because what people feel could last for  a lifetime and never leave. Necessity is a word that is used to stress the needs of people or even to use as propaganda which is used to commercialize a subject.
    Every person has a different set of needs. What they want and how the act make them who they are and also make them feel that their necessities are valuable and worth while. Happy endings are complicated, they aren't necessary, but they are wanted. The past can't be changed but it is a necessity to change the future to make the world a better place for future generations. Some may not think that it's important, but some people may think it is. Even though this may be an abstract word on paper, it's a concrete word in mind.
