Envy is a circle;
Round and round it goes—
You look at me,
I look at you,
And Envy grows and grows.
Envy is a mirror;
We see that which we lack—
We’re so far into jealousy
There’s no way to turn back.
I can’t imagine why you think
You’d want my kind of hair;
You cannot fathom why I think
My lot in life’s unfair.
I can’t believe you’d ever take
A thing like that for granted;
We just can’t ever understand
The seeds Envy has planted.
Envy is a circle—
No end and no beginning.
It twists our minds into a rift
In which we keep on spinning.
And while we turn inside ourselves
We lose all that we know;
The blessings that we’ve always missed,
Fading, slowly go.
