Waiting for the shoe


to fall, a voice
calling my name,
memories of
not good enough,
a shoe, a word,
a misunderstanding,
maybe I did too much,
not enough,
waiting, rushing
to conclusions,
to memories
of the "used to be",
because sometimes,
watching the shoe fall
is a prayer answered,
a fear resolved
if only for a moment,
a brief respite 
before a word,
the sound of my name,
more waiting,
more wondering
if God is really
