Reaction to a dog bite.
Shall I return the “favor” of the dog?
He bit me and the wound begins to throb.
I’ve entertained a scene of canine flog,
yet I shall not resort to the macabre.
It was the neighbor’s dog who bit my arm,
and unexpected such a snap of jaw;
this Labrador had never caused me harm,
so now this strange attack sticks in my craw.
I’ve tended to the opening of skin
with antiseptic and a band of gauze;
the dog I often petted did me in,
and I am at a loss to know the cause.
In hurt and anger I recline and stew:
the neighbor’s Labrador chose me to chew.

It is revenge against the Lab I seek;
I shall not take this wounding lying down!
To do so would cast me as being weak,
and such regard would spread all over town.
Ah Labrador, I spot you in my sight,
soon all your viciousness and growl be mine;
my arm in pain reminds me of your spite,
how you as a kind neighbor crossed the line.
I wait so patiently for setting sun,
and then by stealth I will enter your yard;
I will locate the digs you have begun--
to find those mounds of dirt won’t be too hard.
No longer will you hear me cry and moan:
for my revenge I’ll swipe your buried bone.
