Under the Full Wolf Moon

January's animal is Canus Lupus Arcticus

Under the full wolf moon,
January
stalks his next meal.

Across snow covered meadows
and through white forested tundra,
Canus Lupus Arcticus tracks
trembling lemmings,
snowy Arctic hares,
or antlered caribous.

Turning his head right
and then left
he listens
for the howl of pack mates
or the crunch of snow
under the weight of his prey.

Under the full wolf moon,
the Arctic wolf,
with the help of his pack,
fends off
winter's starvation.
