Chapter One The Confession "Still missing Helen Anne." The news broadcasted across the television. "Today was the anniversary of her disappearance." "I wonder what happened to her." "I know." My friend Valerie answered. "Do you want to know what happened to her?" Val and I just looked at one another. In shock and confussion, her boyfriend angerly blurted that out. He was sitting to the right side of us, in his old run down reclyner. He was eating scrammbled eggs and toast as he spoke. Often spitting out bits of pieces of egg. "Yeah." We shrugged our shoulders and said," Why not." He said," Robert, Mitch and I kidnapped her. Robert went in to the front door. He distracted her and I came in to the side door that came in behind the cashier. I wrapped my arms around her, when I did. Robert came around, helped me and dragged her in to Mitch's van. Mitch was parked outside, ready and waiting. His vehicle running and both back doors open. We threw her in to the van, falling in with her. We hit the van hard.Once we did Mitch took off like a bat out of hell." He started to chuckle. "Mitch was driving so fast that we were all over the road. The van was swaying back and fourth and he almost lost control a few times. Helen was a big girl and she faught back throwing us around in the back of the van. We then drove to Roberts house. We took her in to the garage. We proceeded to beat her. Until she died." "Okay, now why would you do that?" Valerie asked. " Because she was a rat and that is what happens to rats." "Who was she going to rat in?" Being sarcastic to him, Valerie and I asked questions. If we could find something that didnt make sense. I think we would have felt better. At this point, his confession was making us nervous. "A couple of big guys were going to go down." "Yeah who?" We asked. "Just a couple of big buys. She was going to rat them in for cocaine. Her old man was a dealer. He owed them money and she was going to meet with an investigator, so we got rid of the issue." AS if this horrific confession did not matter. He shrugged his shoulders and continued to eat his dinner. Valerie turned again to look at me. I could tell by the look on her face that she was just a lost as I was. Unsure of what to think. Was this story the truth or just a man screwing with us? His name was Timothy and he had a friendly personality. He did not seem to be a man who could ever have done this. He was the kind of person, you said, "hello," to. He knew everyone and was welcomed anywhere he went. So we were unsure if this was just his friendly jokester side. He continued by saying," We took her body wrapped her in a heavy blanket. We dragged her across the road and the brush was so thick that we almost could not get her into the woods. She was also a larger girl so she was not easy carrying. We dragged her a long way. We crossed the tracks and then dragged her through another thick area of woods. Once you faught your way through, directly in the middle, there was an old cabin in the woods. We took her clothing and belongings. Some of her things we threw in the stove. The rest of her, we cut up in to pieces and laid beneath the floor boards." "Yeah right," that was an instant response out of my mouth. "You dont believe me?" He snapped. spitting eggs across the rooom and landing on the floor in front of Valerie and I. "No, I don't. Someone would have smelled her body. There would have been blood all over and someone would have found her." "Also why did you take her in that way, when you could have just went down the tracks." "Because," He snapped quickly. "It was the only way to get her in to the woods unseen. You dont believe me. Go look. But, if you do. I will have to kill you." Valerie and I looked at one another again. This confession, he seemed to have all the answers. His responses were enough to make your skin crawl. "The blood was easy and the smell. We laid a dead animal carcus near the cabin and made it look like a hunting accident." That was enough for me. I told Valerie, "I'm going to head home now. I will catch up with you tomorrow." "I will follow you out." She did not hesitate and was right on my heels, the entire way through the house. I turned around and looked at her. I told her,"If you need a place to go. My home is open to you and the kids." I could tell she was unsure and if it was true she was dating and living with a murderer. "You dont believe me, go look." He yelled one last time as her and I walked out of the house. I remember watching her look back at me as I backed out of her driveway. This look on her face, was confussion and fear. I was hoping she would sneak the kids down and stay with me. If this was true she was in danger. |
