Phone, Cesar |
I use to be head of a Supply Department and had five people that worked for me. My department stayed very busy answering phones and shipping orders to the 2500 offices that we supplied. My employees were the best and if a phone rang it was answered immediately. One of my hardest workers was from another country and his English, although very good, still carried a heavy accent. One night my husband and I were on our way to a dinner date with some friends. My husband mentioned that he had called me and left a message, but I did not get it. He said Cesar had answered the phone. I replied that I was in a meeting most of the afternoon and Cesar was gone by the time I got back to my office. I said to him, "Cesar always relays any message to me, but he was going to his school tonight and it might have slipped his mind. My husband said "his first name is Dee, right?" I looked at him in surprise and said, "no his first name is Cesar." My husband said, "no, he answered the phone with his first name, his last name is Cesar." I replied again, "no his first name was Cesar and his last name is Salazar. I then asked how he answered the phone." My husband said he answered the phone with "Dees Cesar, can I help you." Now, my husband always answers his phone with his first and last name, and he thought Cesar was doing the same. When I realized what was going on I began to laugh. As I laughed harder my husband became incensed and wanted to know what was so funny. Catching my breath, I said, "What he was saying is, 'This is Cesar.' His first name is not Dees. I still laugh about it today and once in a while I love to tease my husband about it. He has a great sense of humor and can laugh with me. 336 word count |
