the eternal sin committed
by all that glitters,
and shades all we are told.

How many times will we revisit
the follies of the past,
explanations that no longer fit
situations and understandings
as if we stood still
while the universe expanded.

It is not for me to say.

Altered glimpses of
time long forgotten.

A definition
where there is no longer
a word or concept
that fits the need.

Narratives that read like fictions
clung to by the sole survivors
of an extinct truth.

Yet we dare not break the mold.
or speak new truths –

By the time we catch up
                    they are already gone –
