A short, weird poem about our hands, God, and the gift and curse they offer us.

Connected
Unable
To be rejected
The hands
We are given
Appendages
Conduits
To our soul
What we do
Interactions
Physical adaptations
All of it is the difference
Between beast and man
Humans are animals
At times abominable
But
We refer to ourselves
As something greater
Than just creatures
We are beings
Living, breathing
Reciprocating fools
Somehow thinking that this place
This overgrown Garden of Eden
Was completely built for us
It’s just not true
It was built for just two
The first and the last
But creation
Was quickly turned
Into the plague of humankind
And like any thorough disease
It has spread across the globe
The hands
We are given
Simple apparatuses
Able to complete
The most complex of actions
We can build monuments
To our Gods and ourselves
We can save many lives
That would otherwise be lost
We can do many amazing things
But
Of course we can do
The most horrible acts imaginable
We can destroy everything
We can murder our fellow kind
We can decimate entire species
For no reason other than value
There is nothing that our hands
Can’t or won’t do
They are connected to us
Conduits to our brains
Pathways to our hearts
Feelable, flexible
Unmistakable creations
That make all the difference
The hands
We are given
Direct implications as relating
To the choices we are making
We are all very capable
Humans and creatures
Beasts with a burden
Animals with a purpose
At first there were just two
Opposing sexes
God’s finite experiment
He was often asking
What could possibly happen
Instead he should have asked
What would if it did happen
Lucky for us he never did
His mistake was our salvation
Two became the rest of us
The hands
We are given
Have done many things
And will continue to do more
For better or worse
For right or wrong
All of it is just a
Continuing side-effect
Of an over abundance
Of human existence…
