| Sticks and stones Isaacs name it meant God laughs Embarking on atonement quest Abraham his father called by God To offer faith up a mountain he trod The sticks he gathered for Isaac to hold Reminders of discipline in days of old Up the stone filled hill with doubts What was birthing this son all about He climbs the stony face with his son Fighting back tears no where to run To the top of the mountain a fire to build Isaac no wiser, on an altar God's will? To raise a knife Abraham knows no better Ready to strike till the angel cried unfetter A ram in a thicket would take his sons place It was a greeting of God with a smile on his face Reminding us of future redeeming plan The giving of his son for redemption of all man Sticks and Stones may break your bone But names will never hurt you. Always remember God has the first and last laugh |
