Living with Darkness
Darkness

One day, I asked darkness, what is its true purpose, why does it drag people here? Why does it create unhappiness? Why does it strip us bare?

Darkness turned inwards and looked at me, confusion struck across its face. Why do you ask such questions? Why do you attack me here?

Let me tell you, the truth of why I am here, the reason for my being, the reason why I surround you

But first I want you to understand, that the cross that I bare, is one that I have chosen willingly, and one I am now glad to share

I am misunderstood by all who come here; they are lost and disoriented, in their lives they do despair

They paint a face of happiness; they hide their true feelings to all around them. But the truth lies deep within them, and it is destroying them from within

I am misunderstood, cause I expose the truth from within, I lay it out in the open, you cannot lie when you are here

Your demons have escaped, they surround you with glee, they are thankful to you, for providing them with a place to live for free

You have given them the power, to control, to do their bidding, with immunity

But they keep from you a secret, one that would devastate them, and kill them from within

You only need to ask for an answer, it is my responsibility to deliver it to your hand, you need to act upon it, any way you can.

You see, there are demons, there are wraiths, there is evil in this land

They roam the regions of this world, looking for suitable places to land

And in you they found it, a willing victim to be had

Light saw your smile, and knew that it was false, knew you were pretending, knew that you were lost

Knew that the demons where hiding inside you, knew that the fight was on, knew what it must do

It was light that sent you here, it knew that I would provide you with comfort, knew I could strip you bare

In the darkness, the demons can come out, they taunt you with despair

They make you feel even lower, they strip your dignity without a care

It makes them feel safer; it provides them with a home to share

But only in the darkness, can you fight them, only here can you find

The strength needed for guidance, the strength to fight with your mind

For only in the darkness, can the faintest flickers of hope can be seen

For only in the darkness, can the faintest cries of help can be heard

For only in the darkness, can you see the truth, laid out in its true form

All its ugliness, all its stench, only here can it belong

Only when you can accept it, can I help you fight the demons that plague you from within

I will carry you, I will care for you, and in me you have a friend

Who will never leave you when you feel lonely, to be separate, or live in despair

I have the strength to do that, I have the will to help you mend

But for you to do that, you have to light that faintest of flickers, you have to shout that cry of help

It will frighten the demons; it will show them you still have hope

That hope will become a shield, only then can I open the envelope can darkness, and let you see without fear

Only then can I envelope, the demons that you fear, only then can I show you, you had nothing to fear

Light will see your flicker; it will hear you cry for help

It will provide a path for you; you can follow it to make you way home

You see, light and dark work together; you cannot have one without the other

Light lets you see the beauty, lets you live your life how you want

But you got lost on your way; you could not see the light for what it was

You smile was false, was fake, you knew it did not belong.

That is when I came in, only within me can the demons break free, only within me, can they leave you, only then can you be free

Only then can you see the truth, and the truth will set you free
