The Icy Plunge

Why do they do it?
Why start this way?
Why brave icy water?
On this cold New Year’s Day?

Why not instead start,
With something more tame?
Like a strawberry tart!
Or this year’s Rose Bowl game!

Why take the chance.
That your toes will turn blue?
You’ll be hard pressed to dance,
And you might catch the flu!

A big polar bear,
Might think that is nice,
I won’t take the dare,
And you better think twice!

If they’ve no New Year’s fare
But the cold icy bay,
Well……they have to start somewhere,
Is all I can say!
