Who Are You?

I stand below the cross
on which this man is crucified.
I am a centurion
I take up my spear and
run it through his side.

His blood runs out in force
and splashes on my body.
I am repulsed by it.
It drips down my side and legs.
I turn away from him.

My breath catches in my throat
My body trembles,
I cannot breathe.
I turn back and look up at him.
What is happening?

There is a blinding light and
I see the cruelness
I have done to others.
I fear this man
as I see him look at me.

But in his eyes
I only see love
not the hate that fills our skies
A softening comes over me
I fall to my knees and weep.
