A poem for that twilight time running up to Christmas
Coffee

A life long looping inwards
Slowly day by day
Winding asphalt mornings
Meandering the grey
Lights hung loosely round the trees
Streetlamps glisten down
Cat’s eyes hiding what they see
‘tween white lines on the ground
Blurring by forevermore
Against the dimming light
These darkened morns, they seem a chore
With contraflows at night
Red to sluggish amber, green
We amble through the day
Taking life the way it seems
Deceptive in its play
Running slowly on a loop
Yet see how quick it goes
Waiting for the colour’s troop
On rain washed, winding roads,
This wind swept intermission, wound
With tinsel lining seams
Where lights and stars shine, glisten down
… on tarmacadam dreams
